CoolPoly Benefits

CoolPoly thermally conductive injection molding grade thermoplastics are solutions for optical drive pick-up bases that have thermal management requirements, but also benefit from the cost, processing and other advantages of plastics.

Precision locating mechanisms in optical drive pick-up bases are sensitive to the dimensional stability of the base material. Conventional plastics are thermal insulators and cannot be used when heat causes a significant temperature rise. Increasingly higher power electronics generate more and more heat. Thermally conductive plastics spread and help dissipate the heat similar to cast or machined metal pick-up bases.

CoolPoly is used to mold pick-up bases that manage excess electronic heat in commercial DVD and other higher power optical drives. CoolPoly is also appropriate for other mechanical and optical frames and bases.

Optical drive pickup bases molded from CoolPoly can provide:
